Template: Competitor SEO Analysis

The secret to the first page in Google is simple: see what number 1 does and do it much better. Here is how to "spy" on them intelligently.

Why do most businesses fail at SEO?

Because they optimize „blindly". They create 500-word articles and hope to take spot 1, while everyone already in the Top 3 has 3000-word articles with videos and infographics.

This guide will show you how to "reverse-engineer" your competitors' success, turning their weak points into your growth strategy.

    The 5-Step Analysis Plan

    1. Identify Your Real Competitors (Online)

Search for your main keywords in Incognito mode
The online competitor is NOT always your physical competitor
Identify the sites that appear in the first 3-5 organic results
Check who pays for Google Ads on these keywords

    2. Keyword Analysis (Keyword Gaps)

Discover the keywords they rank for but you do not
Assess the search volume for these terms
Identify 'easy' keywords they have ignored
What questions (FAQ) do they cover on their service pages?

    3. Evaluating Content Quality

What is the average length of their articles? (e.g. 500 vs 2000 words)
Do they use original images, infographics or videos?
How often do they publish new blog articles?
What is the user experience like (speed, design, popups)?

    4. Backlink Profile Analysis

What is their Domain Authority (DR/DA)?
What important sites link to them?
Are they mentioned in the local or national press?
Do they do active link building (guest posts) or organic?

    5. Your Attack Plan (Opportunities)

Where is their content weak, old or incomplete?
What extra can you offer (tools, calculators, templates)?
Can you target more specific long-tail keywords?
Build an editorial calendar based on these gaps

Recommendation: Create an Excel/Google Sheets document and add these columns. Fill in one row for each of your top 3-5 competitors.

The 10X Rule (Don't just copy, innovate)

Once you have filled in the template and know why competitor X is in spot 1, you have to ask yourself a single question: "How do I make a resource 10 times better?"

„If they wrote '5 Tips', you write '25 Tips'. If they have plain text, you add a video and an interactive calculator. If their article is from 2021, yours will be updated for 2025."

Google wants to send users to the best possible experience on the internet. When your resource surpasses everything out there in quality, it is only a matter of time (and a few backlinks) until you take the crown.
